Obviously, the prime suspect is Idol, so it makes me wonder how in the world he has found my phone number.
The other suspect is meg. In this case, he's nothing but a crook. The call can come from Manitoba and the attacker can be somewhere in the US and the call can be redirected from the United States to Manitoba and then to me.
Those who are deceived have to pay. The telephone company has no way to compensate them and the police can't even help them. It's almost impossible to track the scammers.
There are some online criminals who outsource such services that offer them the ability to rent phone numbers from various locations around the world. They can attach services with the surcharge of those phone numbers.
If you get a beep, as I received from a number in an exotic country, do not rush to call back. If someone answers, you could be charged with $70 per minute.
And to the question of how these scammers have access to your number, the answer is simple: databases with hundreds of thousands of contacts are selling on the black market.
This shit needs investigated.

I can say without a doubt it is not Idol nor Meg buddy.. Wrong province for Idol and wrong country for Meg, and really and truly you are forgetting that either one of them are smart enough, let alone too lazy to even try to find your phone number:)...

What about using a internet base call service??
Did you contact your phone service provider?? And was it a landline you got the call on or a Cell phone??
Strange, but i can tell you that i get a Chinese call almost every day, and you can't block it because the number always changes slightly...I answer my phone, and i never have seen an outrages bill/charge??
