i have to say that i havent noticed a compatibility issue with either. i think it depends on the player. me and a friend burn movies on a multi format TDK and have used both + and -, and results are pretty much the same ,as far as i can tell. you prolly should get a multi format tho, just in case. :)
but teh multi format is $40 more :( .
i think dvd+r/rw is most widely used, notto sure though

I think that cd+r will win out in the end since it has more features (and is likely to have 2-layer earlier), but at the moment the media is more expensive compared to cd-r.
I would go for a dual format drive at the moment, but buy dvd-r media until there is some indication of which way the manufacturers are going to go. More stand alone dvd players support dvd-r than dvd+r, but the difference is small and most support both formats.

okay ill guess ill get the dual....there goes my extra $40 for the dvd rom
I have dual format writer, but have had minor probs with some - disks, but + always work perfectly.
dvd+r/rw burns and plays cds 2, dvd-r/rw burns and plays cds
edit:all you asses were making a big deal out of nothing, so i changed "blah blah" to the correct stuff

What 2 burners are you comparing? I'm sure it's not a $40 difference for every make.Quote:
