Upgrading From Win 95 To 2000

I was upgrading from windows 95 to 2000 and everything was going fine. I didn't choose ntfs for the file system figuring the hard drive was too old. all the files were copying and when the system rebooted it gives me an error message saying: NTLDR is missing press any key to continue and when I press a key it says trying to boot from cd rom and then nothing happens except I get the message about missing NTLDR. I can't go further is there a work around? What is NTLDR . How can I restore it? Can I go back to Windows 95? Please help. It is a stand alone unit. It isn't on a network.

you should have chosen ntfs, there is a fix but if I were you I would just do it again and choose ntfs

you sure your 2000 disc is okay?

What is NTLDR?

I wouldn't recommend upgrading from Windows 95, but doing a clean install. Format the drive to NTFS and start over.

As for NRLDR... I can't remember what that is....

I can't restart the setup, everytime I try to get to the C: prompt, it gives me the NTLDR error.

in your bios change the boot order to cd first (before your HD)
then boot to cd and follow the directions
remember to choose compleat reformat and ntfs :)

boot to cd and try to run setup again, and then choose repair or it may give you a message that it was not complete and it will continue. NTLDR is what starts the operating system in NT

I sympathise with you guys, co's i know how u feel with the missing file..I was having the same
peoblem before visiting here, only to get nothing to save my pc from crashing, I'm here just to
provide a one time solution to recovering from the missing file. Boot to the repair console with your
XP cd on the drive.
1. Copy X:\i386\NTLDR C: (X is your CD ROM drive)
2. Copy X:\i386\NTDETECT.COM C:
