Iv'e got a 715 mb avi file, that i want to burn onto CD. I know that I won't be able to make a VCD, but how do i shrink it down to 700 MB so that it will fit.
I don't want to overburn (I doubt that it will overburn 15 MB anyway).
I also don't want to lose the quality. Is there an app that will let me set a target file size and then shrink it down? :helpsmile:

I had a quick look at tmpgenc and to convert a 715 mb file to vcd made it 2.5 GB!
Will muchspl2's method making a kvcd make it under/at 700mb??
if you use it correct it should come out smaller or larger, the mb really doesnt matter its the time. With muchspl2 method it will reduce some of the quality of the file so it can fit on one cd.Quote:

btw cutting is not necessary,because it sux balls to get up and change disc during the movie
Is 715 the size seen by your computor or in brackets in the properties of it ?
If the first by computer use VirtualDub to cut the end off the movie.

If its the second in brackets thats ok just burn,of all the ones I have downloaded only once have I come accross a movie I couldn't burn it was 727 so I cut the end off to make it smaller.
of course when you convert a AVI to Mpeg it will be 2 gig
Can can try to use KVCD I'm not a fan of it imo
or cut the credits off the end

this might sound stupid but why not just compress it using WinZip or a similar program. its a lot less messing about.

800mb cd's are the easy solution

Use the KVCD option mate as suggested by others. But before doing so make sure your DVD player can play KVCD by going here: KVCD Test File
Download it. burn with nero and put it in your DVD player. if it works you know you can use it and then go here for a guide: HERE
