How To Improve Quality Of Vcd

Does anyone know how to Improve the quality of a VCD conversion using the ACP all in one converter?
Every time I convert a 700mb .AVI file it ends up being 350-400mb which I feel is a bit of a waste. So I try and change the size of the final VCD pixels to say 480*480 to try and Improve the quality but they never seem to work??? :angry:
They are just so jumpy to watch it's not worth doing.
So I was wondering if anyone else Knew how to improve the quality a bit to make more use of a 700mb disc?

all mine come out to 800-830 mb so you are doing something wrong are don't have the correct codec but something is wrong

um the parameters for vcd are fixed, you cant realy change the and keep it as a vcd compliant bit rate= 1150 i think, size 352 x 288 audio 224

are you sure your program is regestered so it does the full movie

a 700 meg ish divx file ( about 120 minutes ) should bust out to about 1.1 gig vcd which you would need to split onto 2 cds for your dvd stand alone player

try using tmpgenc dvd source creator it works great for making compliant vcd's , svcd's and dvd mpeg's, which then you can split with easy video splitter, and burn with programs like record now max ect

a note with nero, when burning vcd's with nero, make sure you untick the make vcd compliant, as think screws the movie up as well, best to use record now max

oh and another thing dont burn at max speed with your burner when doing movies, as this will cause problems too

i use 12 speed for burning movies in vcd ir divx, even though my burner will burn at 48

Sorry Maybe I should have said KVCD! anyhow,
Could you think of anything that I'm doing wrong??
I just open ACP then choose my 700mb .AVI file then hit Start??
Then my finished KVCD is always something like 350-400mb like I said??
Maybe you could do me a copy and post of your Video settings in ACP?

not at home, so no screen shot

settings - set "automatically select output res"
unset "no prediction"

audio settings
41000; 192 stereo;

On the main screen, uncheck "only selected phase" and then change the drop down box on the bottom left to "740MB" (or 800 if you like)

the load the avi file, and click "go"

This should do it all and get the file to the right size for you...it will load tmpeg a few times till it gets it right - just leave it and go for a coffee or whatever.


The way to improve the quality is not to increase the 352*240 or whatever - increase the video bitrate. This is pretty much what acp does...it sets the 352*240 (or 352*288) and the fps (23.97, 25, 29.97) for you, and increases or decreases the bitrate max and min until it hits the right size.

Thats what I got......But

I still get KVCD's at about 350-400mb???

Is this what you get or are they always 700mb?

yep - you should get the size that you specify...try these settings if theres anything different:

yea it doesn't make sense, maybe he has the size to 400 or something other than 800
I have mine set to 825 just because I can fit that much on a cd

Use tmpgenc with the templates from kvcd.net installed. Its much easier.

I do that with half hour shows but for full movies it doesn't get easyier than acp
you don't have to worry about the audio and it predicts the cq to fit the most
something isn't right, he is missing a codec or has a setting askew
