if you use the thermal pad just place the heatsync on top of the processor and ock the clips down carefully and evenly.
if you use arctic silver or another thermal paste then remove teh thermal pad using lighter fluid or rubbing alcohol and fully get rid of it. then apply some paste to the processor and evenly spread it out with a credit card. make a thin layer, thick is worse. now clamp down the heatsync carefully and evenly.
to get a full guide on applying the thermal paste check out arcticsilver.com
is the white pad a sticky white piece on fan? and if is is what if i put thermal gresse on it?
the white pad on the heatsync (the big metal thing  ) is a thermal pad. you must remove the paper ontop of it to use the heatsync on a processor. if you want to use thermal grease\thermal paste use rubbing alcohol or lighter fluid(lighter fluid works faster) and scrub away at that processsor for a few minutes. then you can apply the thermal grease\paste. check out the guide for arctic silver 5 here its teh same idea for pretty much all thermal pastes\greases.Quote:

THIS PDF DOCUMENT (found on THIS PAGE) is a good guide to installing a heatsink to an Athlon CPU.Quote:

do it matter if i put the grase on the thermal pad?
yeah it does matter that would be wasting it and would probably make temps even worse, you must either use the thermal pad or remove it fully and apply the thermal paste.Quote:
