Yep, thats what i've told a few people before. The source file is the best quality you can get, you CANNOT improve it.
There is no point in converting mpeg4 technology (divx/xvid) to the same type, because it wont make any difference, and divx/xvid gives the best quality to size ratio, so no point converting to any other format, unless you want to watch on dvd player.
