as some of u know, i got a new lite-on 52x cdrw.
i use a plain disk, and i'm sure it burns at 48x. i burn something, and i get the option to burn at 52x. i do that, and everything works fine. but the disk only supports up to 48x. is this supposed to happen? it's a great thing, but i'm just wondering. cuz most other burners don't let u do that
when the disk supports upto a certain speed, it means that speeds higher than that may cause corruption on the disk. 48x is still fast enuf for the avg user lol.
also i heard that speeds faster than 48x may cause a disk to shatter if there is even the smallest inconsistency on the disk (i.e. a very tiny crack: 0.5mm)
well, my old burner with a 48x disk will only allow u to select up to 48x in nero. with this, in nero, even with a 48x disk, it can go up to 52.
is this a good or bad thing?
I never burn at those top speeds.
my crap CDs/CD burner can only do about 20 or 30 <_<
I have read ( Maximum PC?) that the best speed to use for good results is 24x.
Works well for me...so far.

anyway, mines been fine burning at 32x...but i find that if i want to do toher stuff with my computer while burning, such as listening to music or watching a movie (id never try playing a game while burning) then burning at 20x is a good speed to not have any errors.
generaly , no burner does actualy burn at 48 or even 52 speed , the buffer under run protection kicks in a lot if you try and burn that fast, as the h/d usualy can keep up
most times it averages out that the actual burn spped comes back to about 24x,
