wen my dad is using his comp sometimes it just automatically restarts, it does it about every 2 hours. he has no conflicts in the device manager and it jsut restarts, doesnt turn off or anything :blink: . wat could be the problem for this? overheating? he has a sony vaio 1ghz everything stock and not overclocked.
right click my computer>properties>the 'advanced' tab>for startup and recovery: lcik settings>now uncheck 'automatically restart'
now instead of the computer restarting, it will show a blue screen. right down all info you can find on teh screen next time it comes up, and google it or post here for further help.

I don't imagine your dad's comp is overclocked but if it is, try upping the vcore a bit, maybe the cpu doesn't have enough power...

i google'd this and got some ideas about running CHKDSK and thats wat im about to do to try to get the problem solved.
yes so far searching microsoft and gogle ive found that that error means something is wrong with the ntfs.sys file. Is your dads computer running ntfs? if he is then this is problably the problem. try running recovery console (start using the windows xp setup disc, then selct recovery console in the setup options) then type in chkdsk C:\ /p then restart, if it doesnt help then it says you may have to delete the partition, recreate and format it.Quote:

yea he is running NTFS, ill give wat u said a try.
The full details of the first few lines could be useful with a Stop 0x00000024 message. It could be a driver problem, which may be mentioned further on in the details of this stop message.
Most of the causes of these messages relating to NTFS were fixed before XP was released so that is unlikely to be the cause, but running CHKDSK can't harm it.
