please can some one tell me how to make vb look in a databse for the user name and see if the password that they entered is the same and if it isnt then return a error message, if it is then display their name on a label (on a splash screen) (to show for 5 seconds) then show thier name in the title bar

If anyone knew they probably would have PMed you or replied to the post. If you're going to keep bumping the thread please do it in a mature fashion.
Maybe you'd have better luck if you find some programming forum? I don't personally know of any but I'm sure you can find one.
