HELP! How do I uninstall WMP 9?
I really need to uninstall Windows Media Player 9.0 so I can reinstall it (and it'll hopefully work).
My issue is whenever I open most of my multimedia files, I got a error-report message. It didn't do this before. I've tried so many things, but I just have to uninstall it.
How do I do this? WMP 9.0 came installed on my computer.
Thanks,
DSF
NOTE: WMP isn't in the Add/Remove Progs. List, even if I check the box that says "show updates." If I uncheck WMP from the "windows components" section, then that (apparently) will just remove links to it from the start menu, etc.
Also, I have XP Home SP2 on my computer. This may be the cause of the problem.
However, I was about to uninstall SP2 when it said that it may affect my FX 5200 Video Card. Will there be any effect?
Re: HELP! How do I uninstall WMP 9?
I believe you can't uninstall WMP9 because it didn't come with an uninstall program. The best way to safely remove it is if you have a restore point set before the installation.
You can however download WMP10 and see if that works for you. :)
Re: HELP! How do I uninstall WMP 9?
First of all, I said my comp CAME with WMP, so I have no restore from before it was installed.
Secondly, I have the same problem with WMP 10.
Could this problem be a result of SP2? (see the edit in the bottom of the first post)
Re: HELP! How do I uninstall WMP 9?
simplest thing to do is just ignore WMP 9, its a pos anyway. Download better alternatives and use them, eg media player classic, bsplayer, videolan, or if you use it to play mp3's get winamp. Messing around undoing service packs/restore points isn't worth the effort imo.
Re: HELP! How do I uninstall WMP 9?
uninstalling SP2 isnt gonna fix your WMP 9 issue
it's uninstallable, period, SP1, SP2, no SP, it doesnt matter
you can try to delete the folder(s) it is in, but XP may bitch about that
and WMP 10 IS uninstallable, its in the add/remove programs list
Re: HELP! How do I uninstall WMP 9?
I don't need to uninstall WMP 10, i need to uninstall WMP 9.
Btw, i tried reinstalling WMP 10, and though the program finished installing, it said there was a file missing called "setupx.dll"
Any ideas?
P.S. I think that the error reports may have something to do with liscened files. Legally downloaded files/burned cds/cds seem to play fine, whereas illegally downloaded movies/video don't play. Does this help solve the problem?

Re: HELP! How do I uninstall WMP 9?
Download WinAMP. (Or any other medai player). And set it to your default media player.
Re: HELP! How do I uninstall WMP 9?
other media players work, I know that already.
But it's not even a fact of me being so faithful to WMP. It's a matter of "it used to work, so it should work now." I mean, I can always work around it, but why should I have to?
Re: HELP! How do I uninstall WMP 9?
BTW, that command line thing that FKDUP74 worked when I opened WMP right afterwards. However, after trying to open WMP again, it gave me the same old "submit error report" message.
WE WERE SO CLOSE :(
