Building New System, Suggestions Needed.
I have been put to work by my family to buy and build a new home pc for their use. As far as building i'm good to go there as i've built dozens of them, but as far as the latest and greatest parts i'm a little out of the game. Anyone care to offer some advice?
what we need is:
64 bit athlon processer, not sure if we're going 754 or 939?
decent motherboard supporting agp video card, plenty of usb2.0 ports
pc3200 or better ram
good psu
full size case
not sure on one or two hd's yet
and for a video card they will be recieving my old 9600xt.
the budget is between 800 to 1000... so any advice would be welcome.
thx
rk
Re: Building New System, Suggestions Needed.
939 is the only way to go.
Re: Building New System, Suggestions Needed.
well if its for family use, i would say a 754 is good enough. It's cheaper and you probably wont have to upgrade it anytime soon if its for daily usage. The 754 goes up to 3700 (2.4) so there are stil plenty of options for upgrades.
ram, once again, if this is for family use, i would say rams like Rosewell pc3200 would probably be more than enough. It's around $60 for a 512 stick of pc3200

True 754, will be enough to build a good system, plus 754's are way cheaper... 939 are just new and they just support double dual channel ram...
800-1000$ should get you a high quality pc...
A few things I'd recommend are:
cpu

or if you have enough money,

motherboard - ( i have this and it works perfectly, comes with all needed accessories and considered one of the best mobos around for amd 754....

pretty much the rest you can find it all at newegg.com , totally a trustworthy site. it's where i bought the whole stuff for my pc :D
Re: Building New System, Suggestions Needed.
What are you talking about when you say the 939 pin CPUs are so expensive?
Look at this 939 pin CPU. It's less than those 754 pin ones you posted: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...066&CatId=1177
And this motherboard to go with it: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...596&CatId=1569
The CPU I posted has the benefit of Dual Channel and 90nm technology, which runs cooler and consumes less power.

Im never buying from tigerdirect again

I'm not saying that he has to buy from Tigerdirect. I only used that to show that the 939pin CPU is available for less than the 754 pin.

Now my CPU and motherboard are both less expensive than your Socket 754. :P
