I want to get a new cpu for my system, take into account speed is good and price is a must! here are my specs:
Athlon Xp 1800+
Geforce FX 5200 - 256MB Ram
1 Gig PC3200 Ram
200 Gig H.D.
Windows XP Pro

What motherboard?
I can promise you this: whatever you buy will have a price.
If you can change your multiplier settings in bios, the athlon mobile xp2500+ is good (and I can still get it locally, but not everyone can) assuming your mobo can handle it and there still are places in your area with it still in stock.
What mobo do you have?
I've also seen xp3000+s and xp3200+s around, but they seem to be on the way out virtually everywhere.
The motherboard i have is the ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe
'k, then the xp 3200 is the highest rated processor you can get, stock that is.
But the thing is, athlon xps aren't that easy to get hold of everywhere so you may have to search for a bit.
A mobile 2600 or 2500 is a also a good option, if you know your way around the bios.
None of them cost that much any more.
Where do you live?
EDit: if you can't get hold of any of the above suggestions, any socket A sempron will do too, but they aren't as good.
i had a mobile 2500+ but my motherboard didn't like it so i switched out with the other computer i have , if i could get it to read the stock speed that would be gr8t but i couldn't do it, btw i live in North Carolina
What was the problem exactly?
If only the fsb was off that's easy enough to set in bios. The Mobo you have should let you set both fsb and multiplier (if it's unlocked) manually.
I asked you where you live in case someone knew of a place or site based nearby with good deals. I don't since I'm a continent away.
Anyhow, any of my suggestions should work on your board I think :unsure:
Altho' the semprons might need a bios flash, mind.
If you can still get one... Go for a Athlon XP 2500+ or 2600+ (non mobile) and overclock it.
