Re: Google Web Accelerator
I tried it out but didn't notice much improvement in speed. Plus Google knows what pr0n sites I visit now. I'll probably uninstall it soon.
Re: Google Web Accelerator
Just more databasing really although it may be usefull to those on dialup perhaps...
Re: Google Web Accelerator
1 hour no improvement, Total Time Saved: 0.0 seconds :(
Don't think it will help dialup it was designed for Broadband.
Re: Google Web Accelerator
its still in beta. im guessing after this got poasted all over the web there proxy servers could not handle the load. i visited a number of sites with it on that took ages to load or refused to but when switched off they shoot open.
still a neat idea to stop ddosing smaller sites when they get posted on larger ones.
Re: Google Web Accelerator
soon Google will have all our information :sad1:
they now have a profile of all our searches, which sites we visit, what's next? they make a tool for easy internet banking? :fear:
Re: Google Web Accelerator
i downloaded google web accelerator and surfed on internet all day....this accelerator does speed up internet browsing. I love this program, thanks for posting the link.
Re: Google Web Accelerator
Don't love GWA too much just yet. It's turned into a security problem over at the Somethingawful.com forums, and that's just one example.

Re: Google Web Accelerator
Here is another issue with this I just saw this on boing boing
Quote:
“Google Accelerator wreaks havoc on Web-apps by “clicking every link” on every control screen in order to cache it — so it also ends up clicking on “Delete my account” and “Launch pre-emptive nuclear strike,” etc.”

Google isn’t allowing people to download Web Accelerator. The site says “Thank you for your interest in Google Web Accelerator. We have currently reached our maximum capacity of users and are actively working to increase the number of users we can support”. Did they really have a capacity or are just trying to fix the tons of problems it has?
My guess, Google realized the major security flaws in this BETA project and decided to work on them with a limited testing group. Wonder what happens if someone just mirrors the installer.
