gigabyte hs/f...not too shabby

hehe, even when you're on limited options,
things can still work out OK

been bored, so I been trying to get good air cooling for my old sempron 2800
on a Gigabyte mobo w/ no mounting holes,
and capacitors in the way prohibiting the use of my good old Vantec Aeroflow,
it's been a bitch
Zalman is out of the question, and no one locally carries Thermalright

so I see this beast on the shelf a while back,
I figured what the hell, and picked one up today

I must say, I was kinda surprised,
didn't expect much from Gigabyte in the cooling department,
but it actually is cooling fairly well
dropped cpu temp about 4-8 C so far,
and the AS5 is still in the "settling in" phase,
so it could get even better

and it's quiet :D
was running a Cooler Master :sick: heatsink w/ a Thermaltake 80mm Smart Case Fan,
I had to kick my PC out to the dog house at night it was so loud :lol:

I hope that little squirrel cage fan lasts a long time cause you'll never be able to replace it....

Never had much faith in heat pipe technology myself.


No, wait, I've got one. Silly me. :rolleyes:

And it uses standard clips and standard fans, and stands far enough above the board that it isn't affected by silly things like caps. What will they think of next. :blink:

no mistake at all, Zalman makes great stuff
I just dont have the mounting holes around the socket

@ clocker - yeah, I was worried about that fan a bit, but....
this PC should be long gone before it ever wears out
(this was the only other feasible option,
but the fins looked kinda flimsy & cheap, so I passed on it)

and it turns out that it isn't quite as quiet as I had first thought,
had the ceiling fan goin a million miles an hour, and it masked the noise a bit :P
but all in all, I guess it aint so bad....

everything else I tried on this bitch was leaving me at 45-50˚ C

I have to say I think you should have gone for the Aerocool. There's a similar model, HT-101jr, which has Alu fins instead of Copper so it works out cheaper. Doesn't look like Newegg sell that one though.

It's the one I've got and I can tell you now it is very quiet.
