Hey, Proper Bo no longer has that hideous avatar, a definite step in the right direction.
hobbes,
I've told you before.
If you can't sat anything Intelligent.then Don't Speak
Neil.
I had to lose the avatar so i could use this sig :( I made that avatar too :( :(
the only topics i see you starting are flame-bait, mainly because you ask a question that seems to be hoping for opinions that put the USA in a negative light, without an opinion of your own.
see: statue of liberty thread, CIA thread, this one, for examples.
and no, i'm not american, i'm scottish.
Which is worse?!?! :PQuote:

Let me jot this down then, so I don't repeat this transgression.
The problem is, I have spell checker software, but not intelligence checker software. So I the only way I can run quality control is with your continued feedback. For this, I thank you.
lol! to be honest i'm not sure.
but your comment made me want to put on a "Mel Gibson" Scottish accent and shout "Freedom!!"
I'm wondering how this topic ever got here.Quote:

Aye, the scots kick ass-they won every war(1800's-on) for uk. If neil said that about anyother(not from europe) race-he would have been banned.....
I'm American... And I hate this damned place. Democracy is dead, the government takes a third of our taxes and uses it to buy cigars for the corporate bastards... I want Nader for prez, but nobody else seems to want him.
Talk to Clocker about Nader when he's about-he's a fan of Ralph's. ;)Quote:

Go Clocker!
Nader will save us all!
We shall see.
Nader has yet to announce his intentions for this go-round.
One can only hope.
True, but if Nader does decide to run, his remaining intentions haven't changed in thirty years.Quote:

Nader is a very interesting guy.
He used to live right around the corner from a bar where I worked, and would ocassionally stop in for a burger.
He was a nerd then (1969) and is the same nerd now.
Probably wearing the same suit.
Unlike many of our current politicos however, Ralph has been a student of the American political process for his entire career.
He may not be wired into the "good ole boy" network like Dubya is, but I'll bet Nader knows more midlevel bureaucrats, aides and functionaries than anyone else. His grasp of the nuts and bolts of government is probably without equal today.
I also think that love'em or hate 'em, any thoughts expressed by Nader are more than likely his alone, not the result of coaching or focus groups.
He is smarter than the average bear.
Ralph Nader is a passionate, passionate man.Quote:

Even though more goddamn democrats exist today than repulbicans, we collectively are spineless.
If all the demos who said "don't vote nader, it gives votes to bush" voted for Nader, he'd be in office.
Maybe.
We may have the opportunity to rectify that unfortunate trend next year.
Nope... Not gonna happen. Mostly 'cause in a country of 200 mil people, 99.9/100ths of 'em are f'cking idiots.Quote:

Then I guess it's up to you and j2 to decide things for us.
Good luck.

To return to the original question, "did they save Britian?".
No they didn't , they occupied it , filled it with Air bases and nuclear weapons and then subjected it to more than 60 years of a-historical blatherings about how it should be thankful for the fact that they intervened about 3 years into the war once Britian was in a weak state and the US had been attacked by the Japs.
B)
See, it takes four of them just to put a flag up.
It's a large flag, and the men are tired from fighting and carrying lots of gear.Quote:

If the ruskies had come as far as the UK it would have only helped to hasten the soviet unions demise as it would have over extended itself. They could barely cope with Poland and Czechslovakia let alone the scots  Don't forget that in 1945 their was still a British Empire. I would have loved to have seen the soviet union survive trying to hold all that together in their state controlled hell hole.

Arpanet invented the tcp suite of protocols, which was picked as the best protocol (at the time) for the world wide web.
Tim Berners-Lee at Cern invented the hypertext protocol which was the precursor to the world wide web.
