So what exactly is a specialized tracker?

You may be thinking, wtf am i talking about here lol but bare with me for a bit.

Oink and What were/are specialized music trackers.

But both have done/do apps (i am not a member of either so dont know that 100% just what i heard).

So how can they be specialized sites, when they dont do just 100% Music?

Even us, we do Game OST, OK it is games related, but its still music, so to me, we are not 100% specialized, but more specialized than the 2 i mentioned above.

Just seems strange to me when they are not specialized, they are said the be specialized.

It really takes us to the discussion of what are the possible Bittorrent specialities.
Movies ? ( but there are several different codecs)
games ? ( but there are several different platforms)
Music ? (but there are so many different styles of music)

maybe the right definition could be -oriented trackers. games-oriented, movies-oriented, etc.

tbh i just thought about it 2 minutes before i posted it.

lol if we ever do have a porn tracker, which is very very unlikely, we dont even allow sex games on BCG, it wont be linked to BCG at all, and all staffs name will not be the same, so no one knows. (in that sense we may already have one lol but we dont :( )

Well you see, thats where this gets confusing lol

to me a porn tracker, could have sex games, movies, MP3 (fuck knows what in music though lol) Pictures, Calenders, Magazines. but as long as it was all porn, it would be specialized.

but a music tracker having apps, or a games tracker having movies is not specialized. (just to confuse matters more lol)

Well, I guess anything related to one category could be considered as a specialised tracker then.

Or maybe just to differentiate between general trackers such as Torrentleech.

Read the third definition, and as you can see that's exactly what those music sites did. While they had some other stuff they did, they concentrated specifically on music.

Just like music shops sometimes sell DVDs/Games...

Didn't SweDVDR especialized on DVD movies and I think it was just PAL movies? Well I don't remember seeing NTSC movies there. Or did it also have TV Episodes DVDs?

and exclusive to me means, on a tracker anyway, they have exclusive content, as on no other tracker has it, or will get it, as its been done all by the uploader of the torrent, not a silly pack, but a P2P release like some HD Groups, but they never show up anywhere else.

Obviously the way filesharing goes, that means no tracker has any exclusive content, as it will get spread elsewhere, doesnt matter how hard they try to keep it inhouse.

Specialised, to me, means a tracker concentrates on that rather than having everything. They can still have other categories and be specialised in one.

Cabalo's thought about calling them oriented is the easiest way out, imo.

I am sure i have not mentioed quite a few others, but then i am not a member of any others, so as far as i know, all of those dont do apps (or things that are not related to the sites) so they are specialized.

imho Oink and What are not, no offence to either, but they do apps, so they are not a specialized tracker (in the sense that everyone makes specialized trackers specialized lol).

PS: Personally i dont really give a shit, this was meant for the BT Lounge where i thought it wouold not get many views lol now its been moved i am just trying to get a discussion going lol

KG offer music though, so it's not only devoted to (non-mainstream) films.

see i am not a member, so now i know that, they are not specialized, unless its only movies OST they do.

well, they don't only offer OSTs but also classic and alternative music so in a sense, KG is still specialized into non-mainstream stuff.

If i understand, MV (or TTi now) is specialized, but not GOEM (Movies + TV Show)

Not at all. BMW specialise in making cars, but they still sell bikes. Microsoft specilaise in making OS but they still offer games consoles etc etc. In fact i know people who have sent there cars to be fixed by mercadies specialists but they dont have mercs. For good sake we are [posting on a forum called filesharingtalk (some may think they r specialised in talking about file sharing), but we sill have sections on games sports etc

Yeah, goem also has TV shows. I guess PtP and TC are specialized for movies.

The way people are talking in here though, every tracker is specialized.

so there is no such thing as a general tracker, because general trackers specialize in 0 day stuff, so every tracker out there is specialized, so why have different categorys for them, when every tracker can be called specialized lol

There are some general trackers that don't just 'specialise' on 0day stuff, they have a lot of p2p and 'home made' content, too.

You yourself was a member of a general tracker for little while. no distinction between scene and non scene. Anyone can up whatever they want, no matter quality. Thankfully people there are for the most part quality conscious. You can expect to find pretty much anything there. Or is that a specialized anything tracker :shifty:

specialized in my opinion is a tracker that has some unique realeases like : AFR , blu-ray , flac other . You know trackers containing those torrents don't need to exemplify . It's easy to make a pack yes... but it's harder to make it unique. It all depends on what do you want from a tracker , what are you interested in : movie , e-books , HD , mp3 , flac , etc. you have a large variety .

Specialized usually means, one offers and do specific things uniquely in one area more then others. Take your site for example, BG specializes in gaming content for modern systems like Xbox and Wii. But you also have some retro stuff (Roms) but BG is more known for the modern stuff which classifies as a specialized torrent site for games (IMO).

Bit me is another good example but they take specialized more literally by only offering ebooks and other elearning stuff only.

So, even though trackers like What or Waffles have apps they are specialized in music. See KFC as an analogy, they are specialized in fried chicken but they also have side dishes and desserts :).

Furthermore, there is no tracker that offers more music than What... If it's not specialized in music, how can it be classified? a general tracker??? maybe a tracker specialized in music, apps and ebooks? but they only care about music, they don't care about the other stuff.
