Demonoid is Alive, The Tracker Has Returned

It has been many weeks since the popular semi-private BitTorrent tracker Demonoid went offline. The site’s owner claimed the downtime was due to hardware issues and warned of the loss of both torrents and user data. Today, however, there is hope on the horizon, as Demonoid’s tracker is now up and running again.

Since Demonoid went down in September there has been a lot of speculation about what had caused it, and how long it would take for the site to recover.

As always, Demonoid staff kept quiet about the site’s future and all its users could do is wait for a sign of life, which quietly arrived earlier today.

A few hours ago Demonoid’s tracker started to respond again. It appears that it’s still hosted in the Ukraine, and although the frontend of the site hasn’t updated yet, this comeback might indicate that the site is preparing for a full return.

The current situation stirs memories of Demonoid’s downtime back in 2007. At the time the tracker also returned before the site itself became accessible again, which took two more months. Many Demonoid members are undoubtedly hoping that this chain of events will complete more quickly this time around.

When the site returns, it’s likely that members that joined the site more recently will have to sign up again, while others may have to resubmit their torrents. “A loss of some months worth of activity including registered users and torrent submissions is to be expected,” Demonoid staff warned earlier.

The tracker’s return in itself is already being welcomed by the thousands of users whose torrent clients are not supporting trackerless torrents. Many of them might have been staring at several unfinished downloads for weeks, and now they are finally able to complete their downloads.

Front end is not up yet. The tracker is up.

you could always grab (existing) demonoid torrents from the likes of mininova, etc ;)

I joined on July 29th this year and upped a few torrents just to Demonoid. They started seeding again yesterday...so the data loss can't have been that great.:whistling

Exactly so! I got some promo only music releases or fanclub editions there I thought I'd never hear - stuff you couldn't buy even if you wanted to.

Hope the site comes back before new year, maybe like an advance xmas present.

I have been missing these guys for their lossless music collection. Thats why I joined this site, to look for an alternative. I hope the site is back up soon.

I'm sorry if I'm beating a dead horse but I was looking through my posting history and came back upon this thread.

What the hell happened?

This article is nearly a month old, and there are still no signs of improvements in terms of Demonoid. Is the tracker still running? Are there any members here who still have Demonoid torrents active that could tell us whether the tracker is still up? And if it is, what the hell is up with the site when the tracker has been working fine for nearly a month?

Something about this just seems off. Hoping for the best I guess.

Confirm - front page still dead, however list of trackers to add is gone.
Tracker is alive!!! Just put back an old torrent (17 GB khe khe) and it is seeding again!!!
Let hope for the rest to come back and see what damage to user data would be there...

edit: 84 seeds and 8 peers, not bad for a 2 or so months dead tracker/torrent site...

Demoniod was a great site, i wasn't happy when it went down. It went down the first time and i stopped using it after that. You could basically find anything you want on there, but i thought of it as a public tracker in a way and i dont like using public trackers but i made an exception. Im thinking of buying a rapidshare account to replace demonoid?

Pone - the tracker has apparently been up since I posted this a month ago, yet the site still is down. Just seems a little odd, essentially why I brought this thread back up.

I have not even checked. Thought something was up when it went down for a while. Was never into the site though I saw it's potential. It is strange.

Yeah, the tracker has been up for a while. Still waiting on the site. Of course, Demonoid was down for a whole year once so I'm checking the site about once a week.
