Free approach to snobby veteran members of the board
Like I said.
We'll play nice in this thread.
Maybe.
It depends, really.

Re: Free approach to snobby veteran members of the board
I sense a possible loop-hole in the offer... :D
-
Re: Free approach to snobby veteran members of the board
The common-sense loophole defies closure.
One never purposely solicits stupidity, especially given it's propensity for appearing unbidden.

Not forgetting also that we have been particularly blessed in that department of late.

Re: Free approach to snobby veteran members of the board
allright I'll be the first nub then, let's kickoff the trolling fest!:
no one cares about veterans really, that's why they keep pushing em shoppingcarts around.

You have totally (really, totally) missed the point of this thread, and no, I am NOT picking on you.
You get one do-over, um, nub, is it?

Re: Free approach to snobby veteran members of the board
old people need attention too :)
-
Re: Free approach to snobby veteran members of the board
I once met a Vietnam veteran in Las Vegas.
-
Re: Free approach to snobby veteran members of the board
Well, I've been around for a few board wars (the ketchup thing and various socio-political sortees come to mind), but.
I was thinking more along the lines of the pre-conceived notions relative newcomers have about the old guard here.
Having never been the vicious type (self-indulgently or otherwise), I feel the need to bait lure reach out to the poor put-upon souls lurking hereabout.
This is a mission of mercy, truth.

Why, Skweeky is a mere lass of, um....she's very youthful.

Re: Free approach to snobby veteran members of the board
Thin ice Kev. Speaking of the ketchup wars; did you know that Razz and tommygunn are now living together?
-
Re: Free approach to snobby veteran members of the board
Barely remember them, truth, but if they're happy, so am I.
I didn't get too deep into the conflict, actually, as I had affinity for both causes.
I even offered to start an underground with two-way traffic, but the idea bombed.
As to your thin-ice comment, I apologize; I merely forgot precisely how young you are, and to demonstrate my lack of guile, I will guess you are now about 28.

Re: Free approach to snobby veteran members of the board
Oh.
Well, I did say it was a guess...you know how time flies for some of us.
I remember when you were still cradle-bound, saying you'd never have kids, etc., and look how much has changed.
It was strictly a guess, honest.
Apologies.

Re: Free approach to snobby veteran members of the board
Les, your memories were erased. 't Was a kindness really.

It's the age thing, Les.
Really, if I were one year older (like you) the odds of remembering it at all would be incalculable, even if I were an accountant (like you).

I hadn't even begun to be offended. sorry. just paving the way for other newbies so they won't hesitate to post here which is so very scary. you veterans you, with all these buttons to push, it's hard to resist you know. but carry on. I give you a do-over, just the one though. enjoy.

Re: Free approach to snobby veteran members of the board
Looks like we have come across an irreverent youth, j.
I'll have you know, cmd, that the Simpsons already did that.

Re: Free approach to snobby veteran members of the board
Just my opinion but if you create a thread to give newer members some sense of belonging and then fill it with "veterans " talking as old friends almost exclusively among themselves , mostly about past occurrences that only they are privy to, then the whole thing is self defeating.

That is a relief - thought I had mislaid them again.

Re: Free approach to snobby veteran members of the board
Personally I'd make it a point to reply to whatever cmd writes even though it's boring as phuck.
-
Re: Free approach to snobby veteran members of the board
I suspect it's a honey trap.

Yeah, so shut up about it.
No, really - if we invite them in and don't...what, scalp them, or whatever...and are instead accepting and effusive, we'll have a crop of succulent noobs to consume at our leisure, as well as an inexhaustible supply of subjects for indoctrination, the ever-expanding international social interaction that has become our charter.
Or something.

Re: Free approach to snobby veteran members of the board
I think you are confusing the Lounge and US immigration policy.

grandad j2k4 uses big words, us newcomers feel small and stupid for not getting his old man style ramblings... please make him stop :P
-
Re: Free approach to snobby veteran members of the board
I wouldn't worry about it, even us oldtimers usually don't know what he is on about.

Re: Free approach to snobby veteran members of the board
The main problem with "old" folks is that they belive they know everything...
I saw once a movie (lapsus name at the moment of writting) about an old grannie trying to theach good manner a 20y old niece and to stay away from the boys, then somehow she (the grannie) turned miraculousely back at her 20y age after dirnking an elixir and she start screwing with all the males in the movie...
-
Re: Free approach to snobby veteran members of the board
You're taking it too far, QPD, IMO. But I will say this, I stay in good relations with older people simply because I never talk politics with them. I usually talk about things I agree with, movies, music, ....
