My boxing fight on friday
This was my my first fight as an Amateur and also the first fight in the novice Golden Gloves Tournament.
I did good but I looked bad by the end of the fight because I got caught with some big shots which gave me a lot of trouble. That was a result of keeping my hands down and not worrying about my defense....I learned a lot from my mistakes though.
Anyway here's the fight. Enjoy!

The operative statement, to be sure - if you came to that conclusion on your own, before you watched the tape, then maybe you'll survive your next encounter as well.
As it was, you looked good while almost losing; the other fellow was telegraphing that right the whole fight.
Anyway, congratulations, and stay vertical, man.
Now, get back to work.

Re: My boxing fight on friday
Not bad for a first fight.
Indeed, you kept the guard too low, and the guy hit you at 7:15 with a very strong one.
I see some fast sequences there too.
-
Re: My boxing fight on friday
I thought it was a fine performance for an amateur debut. Despite your height and reach advantage, you were quick and and your footwork was very nice indeed.
Some lovely powerful combos and the left hand lead was working nicely for you. He caught you flush on the chin in the third but that was largely your own fault. Good work, keep it up.
When is the next fight? Post it if you can. I'd like to follow your progress.

Re: My boxing fight on friday
First I want and say that it was a good fight and you and your opponent deserve credit for displaying both courage and sportsmanship
Anyway here are my impressions not being that well versed in the sport and even less so on the amateur side.
I know it was your first fight and a lot of adrenaline going but you never used the most obvious advantage that you had ...your reach. You seem to have a good jab and move pretty well ,if mostly straight ahead:pinch: so shouldn't you have laid the jab out there built up some points and tried to catch he when he tried to come inside? You should been the one using the ring and he would have been the one looking to cut it of. Either that or just stay out-side and out-point him ridiculously . Practically impossible to knock someone out with the gloves you are using and the headgear anyway isn't it?
Next point clearly his defense was a lot better than yours - not hard since yours was ,except for the aforementioned footwork ( chin down, hands up , make it a mantra .Also move to the side and make sure it is the side away from where he is throwing the bombs)) ,basically non-existent.
That's imo what got you in trouble near the end being cocky and having your opponent dictate how the fight was going to be fought ( you lead with your chin come inside , he covers up and looks for the counter) instead of having a plan and sticking to it.Once he thought he had hurt you he only then got really aggressive.
Seriously man , there is an old saying a good offense starts with a good defense.
Anyway inexperienced , overly macho to the point of foolishness, Albanian or not , you looked like a fighter out there and if you ever learn the basics of defense before someone knocks your stupid block off you might enjoy some success in the sport.
Train hard and don't fall in love with what you are good at.Remember we lose because of our weaknesses , not our strengths.
-
Re: My boxing fight on friday
Don't overthink though lol.
Almost forgot ,no upper body movement . Easy to time.
-
Re: My boxing fight on friday
Congrats, Albo! Look forward to more of these. You looked good out there. :01:
On a side note, a running time of 8:38 is 8 minutes longer than your first amateur porn clip, and this one had a stronger finish. Stick to boxing! :D

This cold must be playing tricks with my mind; I can only see constructive criticism here.

Re: My boxing fight on friday
We don't want to see him fail, Skweeks.
This is what/how guys do this stuff.
-
Re: My boxing fight on friday
So no one would take any pleasure in seeing him knocked out? :o

Re: My boxing fight on friday
Thanks for all the comments guys.
My next fight is going to be in about two weeks or so. They haven't given me the date yet but I will upload that one as well regardless if I win or lose.(Im going to try my best to win though ofc)
To tell you the truth I was very disappointed with my performance after this fight. I didn't expect to get caught the way i did and one of my mistakes was that I underestimated the guy.
After watching this video I saw a lot of my mistakes and from now on I'm going to focus a lot on building my defense. I am also going to need to learn how to stick to a gameplan if it's working because if you notice I was having an easy time when I was staying away from this guy and just sticking the jab from the outside. I started getting caught whenever i decided to go in and exhange.
Also like you said Idoleyes I need to start learning how to move my upper body more in order to slip some punches.
This two upcoming weeks are going to be very tough for me because i will need to make a lot of adjustments.
Also one last thing. It's very very tough being in that ring when you have a lot of people watching you. I was very ring shy and nervous and that definitely affected my performance a little. i think next time I will be more calm since I already know what being infront of all those people feels like.

Re: My boxing fight on friday
Ffs, if we're going to be your fans, that's the least you can do.
One more thing:
Work your abs and lats like a madman, 'cuz upper-body mobility demands it, and can suck energy out of you worse than than taking a punch.
-
Re: My boxing fight on friday
^haha
Yea you're definitely right. I was also told that strong abs deliver more power to the upper body from the legs.
Abs is something that I lack and will definitely need to work on. Even though I don't have a six pack or anything, I can still take some pretty hard body shots lol...at least up till now
-
Re: My boxing fight on friday
ok you came in waaaaay too cocky in the beginning. save your energy man, its precious. you do move your feet alot, i wont say you move them well though. you have to stop crossing your feet when you step and keep them vertical too. i seen you stand completely parallel to your shoulders way too many times, that's any decent fighter's que to step back and blast you one real good straight one in the face, as this es always the easy knockout due to being unbalanced. dont ever ever do that again!!! your next guy WILL be looking for those.
i also want more ducking; you dont duck for shit. i dont care how fucking tall you are you better start the ducking. incorporate ducking in your combos and you will see how much better you catch the fucker off guard and possibly off balanced.
as your punishment for not keeping your parrying hand up, id tape up your hand to your head for a couple sparring matches. you cant do this, you CANNOT be a boxer. these are basics.
http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/Ro...5/54/Micky.png
besides what i told you, you have a good snap in that jab. im sure youll do much better in your next match. Ill be lookin to see how much of our advice you use.
ps whenever you have a little short guy going against you again, know that the only real way he can fuck you up is if he gets inside and lights you up. the less aggressive ones will go for the wild ass haymakers as they dont want to go in and lay down the law.

ARe you telling him to take a dive at all? have you ever stepped in the ring? sounds like you dont know shit. if you have ever been trained you know exactly what im talkin about. YOU NEVER EVER CROSS ONE FOOT OVER THE OTHER!!! picture it like walking on a ledge. keepin your feet vertical, not horizontal to your opponent, literally keeps you from getting put on your ass. Does that make sense to you? if youre just gonna troll.....

Not just your abs but your core muscles .Read this http://sportsmedicine.about.com/od/a.../a/NewCore.htm
Athletic success ,especially that requiring explosive movement is all based on having a strong core .
A suggestion: if it doesn't conflict with the rest of your training see if you can do the full PX90 ab workout .It's kind of ghey I know but only takes like 20 minutes and works your core like nobody's business .

One last word ,nothing negatively effects athletic improvement more than over-training . I doubt if you have access to testing for blood lactate levels so a simple rule of thumb is never train to the point that you are habitually run-down . If you are training optimally you should feel relatively fresh at the start of every work-out and not feel like you have to force yourself..

As a matter of fact, I have spent a bit of time in the ring; helped train a few fellows for Golden Gloves back in the day.
I think the term you are looking for is perpendicular, not vertical.
A vertical orientation, foot-wise, would put a fighter flat on his back, and I'm pretty sure that's not what you meant.
Glad to have relieved you of your misapprehension.
Btw-
I'm don't troll, I'm just returning the compliment.

Re: My boxing fight on friday
Where as I on the other hand know exactly zero about boxing, apart from enjoying watching our heavyweight fighter, David Tua, knock yet another opponent absolutely senseless with his evil right hook.
From me though Albo, great fight, even more surprising that it was your first, you may have felt nervous, but you did not show it, since this was only your debut you show great promise!
-
Re: My boxing fight on friday
Albo good fight man. Didn't look like that was your first fight. Hope you post your next fight up, im looking forward to seeing it cause you only get better in time.

Re: My boxing fight on friday
I am very happy to see so much encouragement for FST's own "hometown kid". I decided to make some user bars to show my support. Please feel welcome to use either of these if you are so inclined.

Re: My boxing fight on friday
well done man
the best bit was when hit him before the first bell
from about 2:10 onwards he was worried, he was in retreat mode for sure
he was rocked a few times just then, you're timing was spot on.
2:18 he was following you're timing but he was missing.
2:26 great combo
you were winning at that point
that last round was his
fuck :(
who won?
-
Re: My boxing fight on friday
I won but the fight could have went either way just by what he did in the last round. If I didn't win the 2 first rounds and half of the last round, the judges would have gave him the fight for sure. I really learned a lesson from this fight. I went there too confident and I've even been slacking of in my training because i thought I was gonna go there and fight bums.
I was wrong and that third round truly showed me to respect the sport.
Btw, today was the first day in the gym since friday(the day of the fight). I was doing every exercise with my hands up and my chin tucked in this time around. I gotta admit it felt weird because usually i hit the bag and shadow box with my left hand down to my hip and sometimes I would forget and drop my hand.
It also feels like your speed isn't the same when you keep your hands up and tucked in and your hands get more tired than usual, but one thing for sure is that it's definitely safer keeping your hands up and that's what im going to do for these two upcoming weeks. I'm also going to practice on some new ways to get in and land some meaningful shots without dropping my hands or cocking back.
Oh btw lol I forgot to mention this. The gym where I train at(John's Gym in the Bronx) is the same gym that former IBF champion Joshua Clottey trains at. He's a defensive master and there's a lot that I am going to be learning from watching him.
He just started training last week for his upcoming fight with Pacquiao and he's looking good. The only thing that I'm worried about is that he switched his old trainer and is training with some new guy who doesn't know Joshua like his official trainer Asante knows him. He doesn't know how to work with him.
He wasn't looking like the same Clottey doing the pads with this new guy and I'm worried he's not going to get the proper training for pacquiao.
I feel his chances with Pacquiao were always small because of his low workrate, but I think they're about to get smaller.
Hey Megabyteme thanks for the userbars man. I appreciate it and i know they took a while to make but I don't want you guys to put them on your sigs cause it would be corny lol. Showing your support by commenting on my videos and correcting what i did wrong is enough for me.
Youre a good dude and i know you tried to do a good thing and I hope im not coming of as an asshole here lol. they look awesome btw. i like the color design and everything.
-
Re: My boxing fight on friday
congrars albo:hooray:
a huge downside for me was the fucking shots we didn't see, the camera angles etc.
you had to learn that lesson the hard way didn't ya? :snooty:
-
Re: My boxing fight on friday
Yea man I really learned the lesson the hard way. I was in in a very deppresed state of mind for about 2 days after the fight and I was being harsh on myself for letting that happen to me( mainly because a lot of my friends and family were there to watch me and I had promised them a knockout) but I'm glad I had to go through that because if this guy didn't show me what I was doing wrong, someone else better than him would have showed me and then it would have been too late. I'm still in the tournament and I still got a chance to win.
-
Re: My boxing fight on friday
First time I wasn't trying to be corny...:D
How about a slight edit that says, "Albo The Kid Supporter"?
Actually just noticed it is "Albo Da Kid", could change that as well.
Let me know. You did really well in your first fight and there are several people rooting for you. :)
-
Re: My boxing fight on friday
I thoroughly enjoyed the fight and give you kudos for posting it. Massively entertaining it was. I'm definitely looking forward to watching your next fight :)
@MBM - btw that was so cool to make those sig's. I like them and defo don't think it corny at all

Never mind I was wrong. Seems like some of you guys have put it in your sig and it doesn't seem bad at all.
I was afraid people were going to think it was corny. lol my fault
Leave it "The" btw.. It seems more proffesional.
Thanks for the fine work MGM. Give me an idea of what my userbar should say.

Before I went in the ring,as a joke, my trainer was like "Watchout cause you're fighting the kid that trains with that guy from Rocky"

Re: My boxing fight on friday
Hey guys I just wanted to let you know that I will not be able to fight in this year's Golden Gloves tournament anymore due to health complications and weight problems.
I also want to apologize to all you guys (my family and friends as well) who were looking forward to watching me fight.
Luckily for me there's a tournament every year and I'm more than confident that I will bring home Gold in 2011. (I will be far more experienced and the good thing is that I will be participating in the novice division once again)
Thank you for showing me support and making me feel good with your warm comments.
Here's an artice regarding my absence to participate in the Daily News page if you wanna read it.. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/mo...up_gloves.html
-
Re: My boxing fight on friday
There's absolutely no need to apologise, it's far more important to ensure you allow your hand to heal fully and properly; there'll always be another tournament.
:shuriken:
-
Re: My boxing fight on friday
Sorry to hear you hurt your hand, Albo! Look at it this way- you are going out undefeated. That makes you all the more worthy of our support next year.
Still an Albo boxing fan.

Re: My boxing fight on friday
Someone should have told you that the punching the frozen beef scene in Rocky was just Hollywood make believe.
Oh well at least now you will have lots of free time to watch Glee.
