what no 3d in ps4 wtf. the hobbit is my fav 3d
Gravity for sure
I recently went to see the Hobbit in HFR which was amazing, much better than normal 3D for sure.
Got to be Avatar, this movie started it for me. looking forward to 2 & 3, but some how, don't think they will be as good at the first.
well i cant think of anything right now but the best 3d effects for me is probably that oz the great and powerful.
Avatar for me too.
Shrek 3D
Avatar. But Gravity is a close second.
Despicable Me is a good one
Monster vs aliens has some very nice popup 3D effects imo
Avatar which I will be rewatching again pretty soon.

My fav 3D movie is Iron Man
Isn't 3D basically just a gimmick to get people to pay more for movie tickets? I've yet to see a single movie where it has really benefited or used the 3D effects to it's benefit.
There's a reason 3D HDTV's are no longer the trend at CES and the industry has moved to 4K. No one gives a flying fuck.
Don't forget the cable providers that offer a 3D tier/package for some outrageous fee.
The only movie in recent memory that really took advantage of the technology seems to be Dredd. I think the staff actually framed or composed a lot of shots with 3D in mind. And of course the slo-mo sequences.
I got a bunch of 3d movies but only 2 glasses. Need to get 2 more for our family of 4.
For the home user:
Having dabbled in current 3D tech, I believe the movie industry has once again caused its own problem. In order to see a 3D movie at home, you need to "invest" in a 3D television, glasses, and movies. This all seems reasonable, but the industry could not decide on one system. We have both active (shuttered) and passive (filtered) glasses. OK, great. Ask the guy at BestBuy, right? Well, there's still the challenge of content to make it worthwhile. Some cable channels offer it at a premium. Otherwise, one needs to buy blu-ray 3D movies- which are rarely for rent, and typically cost $60 each for anything not produced by 10 or fewer people.
Then comes the choices between eyestrain (old-school blue/red lenses), flickering (shutters), or reduced brightness of the screen (all).
Once again, piracy is the best source for materials- often the only source for easy availability as most of these discs are such a niche product that few places even bother to stock them.
Keeping glasses on your kids can be a hassle- they tend to complain about ALL of the system's shortcomings. :frusty:
Even wading through inevitable specialized DRM issues can be a problem, from what I understand.
There's still the issue of justification within the movies as Rart mentioned, as it seems to rarely (if ever) be more than a gimmick used for wow-factor, or cheesiness.
At the movies:
Can be cool, but costs more and is not essential to creating a better story- and is often used as a crutch/excuse/distraction in movies that cannot seem to offer both.
Avatar and Monsters vs Aliens
Best 3d movie for me has got to be Avatar.

Roger Ebert was a genius so discount what he says at your peril.
Dredd is not bad.
Must be Avatar.
Transformers :)
Monsters v Aliens is also very good
Life of Pi too - epic adventure and a feast for the eyes!
Excellent topic as watching something in 3D is obviously more important than watching something that is actually good.
That's why back in July 2009 I gave up the opportunity of watching (500) Days of Summer and instead wisely bought a ticket for G-Force 3D.
Avatar is mine :)
How to train your dragon is another good one...
Interesting. Bet it doesn't cause eyestrain, headaches, or make the kids complain...Quote:
MaxiVision48, which uses existing film technology but shoots at 48 frames per second and provides smooth projection that is absolutely jiggle-free. Modern film is projected at 24 frames per second (fps) because that is the lowest speed that would carry analog sound in the first days of the talkies.[...] MaxiVision48 projects at 48fps, which doubles image quality. [...] In terms of standard measurements used in the industry, it’s 400 percent better. That is not a misprint. Those who haven’t seen it have no idea how good it is. I’ve seen it, and also a system of some years ago, Douglas Trumbull’s Showscan. These systems are so good that the screen functions like a window into three dimensions. If moviegoers could see it, they would simply forget about 3-D.
You apparently read and learn things and do other ghey stuff that further drain my respect for you so....

Apparently are brains aren't even wired to process the current version of 3D technology properly but oh yeah Transformers Dark of the Moon was SWEEEEEEET!
Gravity for sure
Great Gatsby has some cool 3D effects in it...not a great movie though.
:pinch:Quote:
the audience must focus their eyes at the plane of the screen -- say it is 80 feet away. This is constant no matter what.
But their eyes must converge at perhaps 10 feet away, then 60 feet, then 120 feet, and so on, depending on what the illusion is. So 3D films require us to focus at one distance and converge at another. And 600 million years of evolution has never presented this problem before. All living things with eyes have always focussed and converged at the same point.
Gravity. But I really must admit that I have some issues with 3D, especially the one not in 48FPS. The horizontal dragging kills me.
Avatar was probably my favorite!
1) Avatar
2) Hugo, especially the first 5-10 mins.
Avatar is not only the greatest 3D movie of all time; it is THE greatest movie of ALL time, PERIOD. If you had the privilege of seeing it in an IMAX theater when it originally came out, it was as though you were literally walking in a different world.
I have 1 bad eye and can't see anything in 3d. I tried to watch a movie in 3d movie and couldn't. :( :( :(
