Why is this sad?
The man was physically and mentally incapacitated, and now he is in heaven for eternitiy. People should celebrate, not mourn.
Well im gonna celebrate

At 84, we should not be greedy and ask him to stay when his body was more than ready to go.
Sympathies to those for whom he was an devotional figure.
so..is there going to be a new pope?
RIP
Millions will mourn.
Eventually yess, but they have this weird way of selecting the new pope. The bishops go into a room and pray, untill god tells them who will be chosen.Quote:

Note that those words are for the Pope only - I'll keep my feelings reserved on the Catholic church.
i'm suprised people care so much?....
will this result in a day off from school on monday? :01:
There wont be a new pope then, because they would have a long wait. :)Quote:

not like our presidential elections then where they burn the ballots before the results are in :naughty:Quote:

I just don't understand why they won't let them retire rather than waiting for em to kick it. It wasn't nice to watch him struggling to carry on his work and the last couple of days of the media 'waiting' for him to die seemed a bit macabre to me.
I'm not ure you can quit your job as vicar of Christ on Earth. Plus I heard he himself didn't want to quit whatever the cost.Quote:

actually the funeral will be within 4 days, after that all the cardinals have to travel to rome and enter what is called the conclave, there all cardinals under 80 write on a bit of paper who they want to be the next pope, you are not allowed to vote for yourself. cardinals over 80 aren't allowed to vote. then as boab rightly said they burn the ballot slips when the new pope has a certain percent of the vote and the smoke you see is from that.
meant to say there are about 130 cardinals.
If you'd left that bit out, would it have been a cardinal sin?Quote:
