I started with napster -> winmx (first p2p to resume!!) -> klite (never KMD) -> IRC -> ftp -> newsgroup (free) -> bittorent -> rapidshare.de
kazaa is dead. BT is real P2P, no fakes, etc.!
I'm surprised kazaa still even exists... but even if it's shitty, I'm glad it's still there :)
Yes Kazaas dead. Or should I say, obselete. At the very least all the old(non-leech) Kazaa users should move onto Ares.

I found kazaa was good for my parent to use cause it sometimes gave them files, and they did not have to click alot... i just had to clean out the viruses every few weeks
i prefer bearshare
