Run your RAM and FSB at the exact same frequency for optimal efficiency and stability.
Messing with timings (CAS latency etc) will yield very little difference to performance; using the SPD settings will give you rock-solid stability.

Lamsey, what are "spd settings"Quote:

BTW, I see you like Mike Oldfield. Tubular Bells has long been a favorite of mine. Just listened to it a couple of days ago, in fact.
Every other problem Ive had is now gone. Clocker I did all the things that black viper does in his super tweak guide. Everything seems to be..great. When I set the FSB at 185 and the multiplier at 10 however, it ran it back at 1,100 which seems to be the default speed, cuz thats what it was on when I got it. I think that means I cant change the multiplier. However when I went back into the bios my settings were still there at 185X10..

SPD= Serial Presence Detect....
it enables SDRAM, CAS, row precharge time, RAS pulse width, ras2cas delay, and sdram bank interleave automatically to be determined by BIOS based on the config on the spd
EDIT.... the first thing has to say SDRAM Frequency...hehe my bad B)
What did I tell you........... You may be able to select it, BUT IT MIGHT NOT BOOT LIKE THAT. Phew.Quote:

Anyway, set it to 11, thats the multi for the bartons, last time I checked.
Just set it at 11x and the FSB at 200, and get used to it at that.
new bartons have their multi locked so u have to overclock using the fsb only
:o for real? :o
dude, ppl like john and vb have told u that like 5 pages ago.... ;)
yea.... but ADD starts to kick in.... so 3 times is the standard # of times to tell him same thing....Quote:

Goddamn...it was just a joke. Seriously you thought I was being serious...I know bartons are locked damn
I was just making fun of him...cuz thats like stating the skys is blue
SPD settings are the standard speeds and timings for the memory module in question - these settings are hard-wired into each memory module and the motherboard reads these and adjusts its settings accordingly.Quote:

Needless to say, SPD settings are the most reliable settings to keep your RAM at.
With regards to Mike Oldfield: damn fine musician and composer - sharing shedloads of his stuff on Soulseek :)
Just be aware that if you do that then your overclocking.Quote:

I like Tubular Bells also. Great stuff!

Yeah I know ill be overclocking..I like everything how it is right now...I dont plan on overclocking till later...advice of clocker.
Id also like to appologize about the sorry if your poor and cant buy a new computer thing in the other thread..it was a joke :P
A poor one, and one that will cause offence.Quote:

Remember that even if you mean it as a joke, others may not see it that way.
With regards to your CPU frequency, the Athlon XP 2500+ has an FSB frequency of 333MHz and a core frequency of 1833MHz; thus the failsafe settings are:
RAM: 166MHz (effective 333MHz)
FSB: 166MHz (effective 333MHz)
Multiplier: 11x (11x166=~1833MHz)
A poor one, and one that will cause offence.Quote:

Sorry for cluttering the thread, but I was wondering how the university is treating you, Lamsey; if you are learning anything new about the world of computer science. Is school easy for you? As I understand as a CS major you need to do a lot of math... B)
Learning a few things here and there, but a lot of it is old ground. That should change soon
I got an 84% average in maths for my first semester, so no problem there - yet.
y would u make a joke like that....you were the one w/ like celeron 555mhz computer for like a couple of yearsQuote:

ah the good old days... when i was only 6 and the p166 was top of the line
had to choose btween 8 megs and 16 megs of ram... the same choice is now left here (512 or 1gb)
B) i suddenly feel soooooo cool. i wub kliteboard!
even though apologies are accepted.... this isnt enough. its the fact that you call someone a motherfucker or a dip shit (yes those were your words) just because your 16-year old mind wants to what pisses me off. I never insulted you. I just merely pointed your stubornness in learning something.Quote:

Its really not something I should really care about (helping you, that is), but I still do it cuz i enjoy letting ppl know the things i learned one way or another.
about the poor thing.... i think lamsey already summed up by "it wont get you ANYWHERE in life"...
as you said, we are all friends, it is a help board for ppl to learn.
You either take the knowledge or leave it, but dont mess with people just cuz you dont agree with them. :nono:
i think this thread should be close now...hes done building his comp, it work. nothign more need to be added here
I say we leave it open, because he will have more questions, and instead of making a new thread, for every SINGLE question he has, he can just post them there, and the boards will be less cluttered as a result.
That enough reason?
Yeah I might have some more questions later...if it drifts off the board then I guess I dont have any quesitons..its all good for now tho.
hmmm. The only real problem I'm having now is whenever I go to start then turn off, and select turn off, It gives me a stop error with all the numbers and this is listed below the numbers
nv_agp.sys-adress F894ADAB base at F894A000, data stamp 3d7903c1
I duno what the hell it is..but thats the only error im getting..and i had to turn OFF the automaticly restart button for system failure..so I duno whats wrong there either. Ill put this in software world also, i was just updating yall.
try updating ur video card drivers and update windows as well it shud fix the problem ;)
http://www.sighost.us/members/bigdawgfoxx/error.jpg
Here is a picture of what ALL of the errors are...there all this exact same thing...what does this have to do with?
I'm getting my video card today and I will be putting the latest drivers on there. I've done all of the windows updates.
To me that looks as if your system clock just can't sync with a server.
Doesn't seem like a big deal.
Is that your only problem?...it's covering up your error log.
My new graphics card just showed up! And yes clocker I know its all over my event log..its the same error everytime tho..so I dont think its a very big deal...LET ME GET MY 9700Pro in :D
It came with tombraider also, but no case badge..oh well..ill stick it in and lets see!
Its like twice the size of the 9500Pro lol
OK I got all of my drivers set up. Im on catalyst 3.8! I got 4X AA and 16X AF ....you think that will be good for BF 1942? Or too much?
I love this card so far..very pretty
Should i put it on balanced settings for benchmarks?
u should put it on optimal performance for benchmarking
there is cat 3.10 drivers out if u didnt know
