Is newsgroups or usenet (???) that thing where your isp has to provide it in order for you to use it?

Not many provide it these days, if they do it's usually crap.
You have to pay for a good usenet provider. It's well worth it.

I find Virgin's usenets to be perfectly adequate. The only irksome thing is the 7 day retention, but I just have a quick swatch most nights to see if there's anything I fancy stealing

That's fine for you then, but 7 day retention would be useless to me because I tend to download things when I want to watch them and not when they are released, so that I can save my monthly bandwith from being wasted on something I might not watch for a few months. :)

i can't Imagen a world where you have download limits :mellow: i don't even know if we have one for our BT homehub here in the flat... i'll steal the occasional thing through our own connection, a few things through near by connections and the majority of it ewesing works super jiggawot connection :01:

I download stuff on the off chance that I might want to watch it one day. I probly only ever watch about 10% of it, possibly even less than that now I think about it.

That's what I used to do until my ISP started enforcing the caps with overage charges...
