Brody isn't "thinking.His reaction is one of shock,not fear as he finally begins to realize the true magnitude of the situation that he's facing.
Also by delivering the line as a definitive, it doesn't present any wishy-washiness which is important.
Although Quint,Brody and Hooper might be there for various reasons,one thing they share in common is all are unwavering in their actions which is why out of all the characters they are the three on that boat and also why they choose to persist even when things begin to go bad.
