In all fairness, tho', you use them when denoting plural on (lower case) letters, like s's, and a's, so that has me a bit confused when typing fast and using those one and two letter words/abbreviations.

If your Swedish teachers want you to use your colon then perhaps you should. It's a cultural thing.
