Your first choice would be quite the opposite of mute, but I'd say it isn't moot either. Speaking to someone has the advantage of you being able to ask them directly what it means in context, and if that's not possible (e.g., eavesdropping or attending a lecture of some sort), then bank it for later. Anyways, I may have given that post as a presentation for all of us, but I was really only referring to my posting habits. It would be dull for me to limit my diction because I feel that some synonyms better capture the connotation. I may have mentioned this before, but it's not uncommon for me to have a thesaurus open in another window when I'm posting, texting, writing an email, writing a paper (especially), etc.
