He probably thought of the idea of opening sign ups for a short time period, but most likely reconsidered that thought after the sign up page was getting hammered. Also the increased "Pisexy" talk on torrent trading forums did not help. I'll be mildly surprised if they open sign ups anytime soon.
maybe the 2500 new user limit was reached/
