Well this crap is pissing me off now. Just got a new Maxtor 200GB drive and this mobo wont detect it. Foxconn's site sucks, cant find any answers relating to SATA problems.
Is it a SATA II drive?
If so, you need to jumper the drive to "downgrade" to SATA I before the Via controller will recognise it.
The big problem is that the VIA 8237 southbridge is a POS.
It says Serial ATA/150. Im assuming that SATA I yes?
Yes.
It's been 8 months and you still don't have a working SATA drive?
lol thats what i was looking at... i was like wait...he didnt solve the problem?
lol... nope. The first 2 drives didnt work. But they were mailed to me so I thought this one might. This one is store bought and isnt working.
Will a hammer work?
I've got a S939 mobo with VT8237, and the SATA doesn't work properly on that either. I'm told it works brilliantly if you want a RAID setup, but if you are just using it as a simple SATA drive it is a complete tossup whether it works or not.
I'm going to flash to the latest bios in the next couple of days, otherwise I'll probably get a Sata II controller card. Needless to say, if the bios flash doesn't fix the problem then I won't be looking at any more Via chipset mobos.
Yea, same here. Let me know if the bios flash helps you.
