Amd Athlon Xp Vs Intel Pentium

Well, the overclocking rates on an Intel chipset are great. An Intel Xeon 3.06GHz can be overclocked to 3.7GHz. That's a whopping 640MHz!!!

Intel tend to run faster as well and I've heard that they generate less heat. I can speak ;) I've only got a P4 2.0GHz :)

Intel have made it to the 64 Bit platform as well, and AMD haven't. Intel have released the Itanium :D

And laptop wise, the Centrino have won the battle. Due to the Intel Centrino, laptops have never been so thin, generate less heat and use less battery. And it's crammed full of features such as IEEE 1394, USB 2.0, TV-Out and 802.11g (or something like that).

Yeah but no-one uses it, at least on the desktop market.

Hammer will be released later this year and will be very useful for desktops since it will be backwards-compatible with 32b applications - unlike Itanium.
Microsoft are going to bring out a special edition of Windows XP 64b to use the Hammer's abilities.

Well they basicly beat each other in diffrent ways.
They will run certain apps faster than each other..

Yeah but you'll only really notice the difference in benchmarks.

If you use one computer with an Athlon and another with an equivalent P4, you won't notice any real speed difference.

Benchmarks are all very well but they can lead you to believe there's a bigger difference than there is - who cares if an Athlon runs Quake II at 3 fps faster?

I know my hardware... note i started the thread you mentioned.... and yes... it is retail...

Heres one...

search for 3.0ghz 800mhz at price watch, and you will find more...

"the annomaly", apparently was related to the bean counters, (prices, etc) according to the news from INQ.... ie the fact that the 3.0 does out perform the 3.06, and was cheaper, they were workin on pricing issues...

i'm not trying to step on your toes or anything. i know you started the thread and i know you have more knowledge than me, but i come from the uk, and the 3.0 gig isn't available here yet.

i was gonna order my new comp from the us, but the shipping costs would be prohibitively expensive. plus if i had any problems with the hardware, i'd have to send it back, which would be pretty expensive again.
also, the voltages of the mains power supply are different here. in the uk, it's 230 volts, but in the us it's 110 volts i think.
