I'm using the http://strongvpn.com OpenVPN service. It's requiring some fee but with few dollars you'll have nice service with 24*7 support and reliable connection. It gives you an American IP and works much better then any proxy with it lags and viruses...

i have used " pimpmyip.org " for that purpose.

I'm starting to consider the idea that maybe schools have identified the new influx of proxies and have developed a new algorithm to ban them; so far, none of these proxies work at my school.

If you have access to create a ssh tunnel (ie: ssh -D 8080 [email protected]) then I would recommend doing so and routing your traffic through the tunnel (FireFox proxy settings).
