when the drive has been newly formatted, create a folder. save all your stuff in this folder, right click on folder, then on sharing and enable sharing for everyone on the network. is what i do so everyone on my network can access my music folder.

I know, but I don't like the idea where a certain machine must be connected in order to have access. Plugging the HD into a router bypasses the problem. So when I reboot, I don't screw over someone accessing the ext hd. Also, sharing slows down the machine.

Maxtor Too! I love their setup disk and utilities and I hate Western Digitals Data Lifeline Tools.
