There's a school of thought which would have us believe that defragging too often is counter productive. As it overworks the HDD and in particular the bearings, to little or no good end with regard to overall speed of access.

Don't honestly know where Raptor-man would come down on the question; I find my inclination to leave my PC on full-time makes that consideration seem silly.
The only HDD I've ever fried was a Western Digital 40G unit which I replaced under warranty.
The tech I got the RMA from cast aspersions of those who turn their PCs on and off all the time.
I leapt to what I assumed was the proper conclusion, and have been leaving mine on for the last 4 years.
