i think ill buy some maxell ones, sony ones are just making my pc freeze. a blank cd works, just tried it now.
isnt tht risky? how would i go about flashing the drive? and is it worth the risk?

The flash tool is usually included in the download, it always has been for me in the past.
What risk? All of these firmwares will have been implemented by hundreds of people, problem versions would have been quickly withdrawn, and in any case there should be nothing to prevent you from reverting back to the original version.
I've never had problems with custom firmwares.
I'v done it on two Devices which by no surprise were both Sony's, had no trouble tho it's like a updating a driver .
Can't say you won't but just make sure its the proper version and you should be fine . Use as a last resort tho . :)

One was problems with burning { kept freezing } the other was not showing in My Computer , fixed both . :)

cheers, right i decided to flash it but now when i run binflash it sort of comes on for a split second then goes off? :S
