I use flashget which i think is the dogs bollox.It`s free and keep your download speeds to a maximum.

acceleraters are bs sorry to say but all they do is pause/resume if your on a dail-up connect
download accelerators are so you can make use of the full potential of your connection - useful if the server you are connected is a bit crappy
i just use them for the resume function
