Excessive crackling is usually caused by overfed pigs, not a problem usually encountered in your part of the world. If they've started hissing they obviously aren't too happy with something you've done. Possibly they are just hungry if your efforts to get rid of the crackling are excessive. Treat them properly and you should end up with a quiet hum.
You should probably have posted this in the farming section.
Do you have a router connected to the telephone lines. Then the crackling noise is heard due to that . I had this problem and solved it by connecting the phone to a splitter.
I know if you are charging the phone at the same time while you got the call and also it happens if you have any device which will cause the interference with the radio waves and also it happens if the cordless is defective. Try getting the friends cordless phone for some time and check if that is causing the same issue.
