The DVP5982/37 was a much better deal since it had USB and virtually eliminated the need for burning anything.
I have the one before it that upconverts to 1080i and the greatest feature is being able to pop in a USB key with a movie or TV show and watch.
For the extra $15 you get the USB and HDTV upconvert ability.
Your mother will have to burn everything she wants to watch outside of normal DVDs vs. sticking in a key.
The information was interesting, but I wasn't planning on using it. I have managed (somehow) to pound into her brain the procedure for burning a DVD/CD. It' would take forever to get her to learn how to transfer with a flash drive / HDD. You'd think it would be simple, but my mother is dense when it comes to computers. And as if that wasn't enough (which it is), she doesn't have a flash drive. I don't feel like spending $15 extra on the player and $30 on a 2GB flash drive which can only play 1 movie.
Mmk, whatever you feel is easier for yer mom.
Me personally? I bought the flash drive, I get a film, I move the file over to the drive, 2 minutes, done.

Well that's a timesaver if you have a lot of movies on ext hard drive.
Hell I have over 1TB of movies but still use my USB keys. The hard drives were formatted NTFS.:dry:
My new 500GB will be formatted FAT32 but I'll have to use short titles.

ive had experience with several divx/xvid enabled players and the one that i have found plays every file (without fail) is the magnavox mwd 7006.
this is actually the cheapest divx/xvid player on the market but it is the only one that i can personally guarantee to seamlessly play all of your xvid/divx content. i have tried the phillips and the toshiba models and they have both disappointed.
the magnavox does not have any fancy bells and whistles but as i mentioned the reliability is rock solid in the fact that it WILL without a doubt play your divx/xvid content

I dont have hdtv, but the usb feature seems appealing. No need to burn to discs, unless ofcourse you want to keep it for a collection.
