Why Dont Optical Drives Ever Burn At Advertised Speed?

I have an 18x DVD writer, and I use 16x DVD-R's. I burn all my movies at 16x.

I stand corrected.:)
I based my statement on the experience of myself and friends that all have to burn video at slower speeds so that we don't end up with a load of coasters.

its better 2 write at 8x for dvds becoz it will last longer. and some drives dont read it if u write at 18 r 20x
