Just a bit.
Takes me about 4 hours with a 2.4ghz processor.
If the movie is already an mpeg, it saves a lot of time.

how long if say i have the file in vcd or svcd already?

I would say it would take about the same lenght of time as it would to convert a avi to mpg. Maybe a bit longer.

And MVCD is just a german wanna-bee of kvcd

how good is it compared to kvcd?

It's the same thing except it's german and they use the standard resolutions.
