I agree with lee551's and johhn's observations,when i personaly use the vncviewer or tightvncviewer i register the same low bandwidth utilisation.
If you use KDE you can try Krdc (Remote Desktop Connection).

There is no doubt that it's happening EVERYTIME I run it. It takes no time to build up (bandwitdh shoots up right away).
Sorry for the paranoia here but, is it possible that someone uses it as a door and taxes my bandwidth?
