There can't be a standard guide to smilies. Generally the context can be gleaned from the text the smilie is attached to.
I can't believe I just used the words context, gleaned, and smilie in the same sentence. <_<

Mozilla doesn't say how long does it take to load the pages... I would say just a few seconds to load a full page... maybe 2 to 4 seconds per page...
i don't really use smilies, because i tend to talk in a flat tone, so that's how i type - it helps when i deliver a semi-humourous comment
another reason is that my i'm on 56k so it takes to long to d/l the smilies
