WinMX is still alive... sort of. "Life support" would be a more accurate description, but hey, it may work for some.
Re: Which is good file sharing software?
I came to know about these when Napster died around 2003 or 2004 so kinda missed it

I recommend you 1)utorrent , 2)Pando and 3)Ares.
Re: Which is good file sharing software?
u torrent 1.6.1 is the best torrent.
Re: Which is good file sharing software?
Napster was great! Also Kazaa but I lost interest in it once the amount of malware on it got uncontrollable

There's What.cd now, which has 5-6 times more torrents than OiNK had back in the day, and can easily be joined through the IRC interview if you're willing to "study" a bit. Besides the nostalgia, I see no reason to regret not having been a member.

It's not a torrent but bittorrent client.
As for being the best, well it's kinda hard to answer but it's the most popular one, that's for sure. At least on windows os.

Even more than the newer builds?
I generally agree with the "paranoia" of most people that choose to stay on 1.6.1, but that's an aging program missing the hundreds of fixes and new features available in the latest versions. You can always block the "call homes" using PeerBlock or the hosts file, anyway.
