Re: Animated avatars in the torrent community
I think they're annoying as fuck, and I end up adblocking most of the worst offenders.
Quote:
Along with these kinda aggressive avatars there's also a trend of having nude/vulgar avatars, I never understood what purpose that serve.
This also bugs me. I'm often surfing these sites in relatively public places, why exactly do I need porn on my screen just because you're an immature 13 year old? We all like staring at tits, but there are a million websites where that's easily available. (The obvious exception, of course, being porn trackers where a NSFW avatar is pretty much expected).

What my avatar says about me: I'm classier, blacker, have more wood, and am more of a playboy than you'll ever be or have.
OT: I honestly like some of the animated avatars. The ones that animate a simple picture, shake it around as if a camera man has Parkinson's and add old film effects are the ones I enjoy looking at. The rest are all disposable for all I care.
EDIT: Someone should research the correlation between number of animated avatars owned by the person, and number of threads* started. It's fucking annoying seeing the same person open 6 threads to discuss "movies" when all they do is copy paste IMDB information and add "CAN'T WAIT FOR SCENE RLS!"
* - Assumption made here being that all threads started by these people are pointless, thus negating the necessity to state the fact.
Re: Animated avatars in the torrent community
Most are usually a tad over-the-top and show-off. The animated ones over CG are usually good for a laugh. Also seen one based on Un Chien Andalou, was pretty freaky/cool. Understand the main point that you are driving at though. Case in point: Hombre's avatars :P
Re: Animated avatars in the torrent community
Idol and Cabalo already told the thing you need to know: such avatars are mostly used by teens who aren't worth a fuck. I couldn't care less about anything they write in forums.
Re: Animated avatars in the torrent community
I like mine. It always bugs me that I can't use it here due to smaller size restrictions.

Re: Animated avatars in the torrent community
Avatars are like tattoos and fashion, people merely copy something that they have seen elsewhere and the more idiotic think themselves to making some kind of artistic personal statement.
A good avatar should reflect some part of you but again like tattoos and fashion excess simply makes you look silly.
Of course the people who resort to excess only do it for the attention it brings so I guess most get their wish, although personally I'd rather be noticed for something other than covering my body with tattoos, having horn implants and carving my ears into puzzle pieces.

You're clearly just jealous.
Re: Animated avatars in the torrent community
Thankfully I'm not as stupid as you look.
Re: Animated avatars in the torrent community
My vision is quite good, so that would be more of an unintended compliment for yourself.
Re: Animated avatars in the torrent community
The most annoying avatar and signature i have seen at 360ISO one guy had a 6MB gif image and had 6 post on a page and it was getting impossible to load the page
