I hope that this doesn't come off as judgmental or lecturing but Episodes 4-6 or whatever they are were of cultural significance because A. Fitting neatly into a time frame when cgi was in it's infancy,studios were just discovering the potential draw of summer "event movies" and the power of marketing, and as old hat as it seems now the concept of combining technology of the (then) present with the sensibilities of the past( ie the old matinee serial cliffhangers)was something entirely different.
B. Pet rocks,Tickle Me Elmo and disco all at one time had some cultural impact so I fail to see your point.

Btw I still believe everyone's entitled to their opinion.Mine just happens to be that the(major)battle scenes were overblown,needlessly confusing and totally devoid of any real drama as they lacked intimacy.Great battle scenes work because amid all the shouting ,bombs and running around willy-nilly there are still people that we have some vested interest in at the core.That's why a director is constantly cutting between overviews and individual characters.It's emotionally easier to deal with sending your cow off to the slaughterhouse if you haven't named it Kenny.

I agree about Ford though and the fact that his was the only star-making turn from the entire series lends some credence to that statement.
As for Portman, I'm semi-retarded, not blind.:)

I think star wars fans would agree the last ones were useless because the stars of star wars were not included.

r2d2 was the only one that looked the same all the way through all episodes and c3po.

I would be ashamed to have released those last three films if I was him.

Well, you like what you like.
I thought the battle scenes were brill, even tho' there were no cows.

What makes a battle scene work for me is only partially about emotional investiture. The tactical side always interests me so I like it when the skilled few defeat, or hold off, the spastic masses. And big bangs and spaceships help. I'm fine with directorial cuts as long as they make me vaguely aware of what's happening in each part of the overall battle and don't even mention the love interest until the last blow is struck.

I realise that I hold a more simplistic view than you do. Dissecting movies is not for me.

Oh, my point about the impact was that it was such an impact.
