the asus A7N8X and the gigabyte 7N400L.

the gigabyte one is less expensive, and i personaly like it better because of the color of the board. but other people might not like it...oh and im not sure if the asus one supports dual channel memory, the deluxe version does for sure and -x one for sure doesn't. but teh gigabyte one i mentioned does support it.

oh yeah and buy an athlon xp 2500+ processor, it can easily be OC'd to the speeds of a 3200+ with stock cooling, but i recomend you buy some arctic silver 5 thermal compound instead of using the crappy thermal pad.

i was going to buy a 3000 with the 400 fsb
what could i overclock that to? (safely with stock stuff)

probably only to 3200 maybe 3400 at most. the best deal out there, imo, is toget a 2500+ and oc that to 3200+ or higher if you&#39;ve got good cooling.

The 2500+, 2800+, and the 3200+ are all based on the Barton core, along with the newer 2400+ barton, and the 2600+.

So technically, they all have about the same capabilities.

In tests, the 2800+ and 3200+ have been able to get a slightly higher overclock, with less effort, but the price ratio is not worth it compared to the 2500+.

As for the motherboard, if money isnt much of an option, and you want a SUPERB overclocker. This is the pretty much only choice.

DFI -LANPARTY NFII ULTRA B - 146&#036;

Its about the most expensive package around, but its a very complete one, and with that board, the sky is the limit with overclocking. I know people that have gotten 280FSB on that board, stable too. FSB is one of the main things we use to overclock, and if your board cant handle high FSB&#39;s you wont be able to get a very good overclock.

If your budest is lower than that, then I would like to reccommend my board.

Epox 8RDA3+ 89&#036;

For that 89 dollars, you get a board that is a great overclocker, more than that of a company of Chaintech, or even ASUS. And you also get a package that you would often have to pay atleast 100&#036; to recieve with your motherboard, like Rounded IDE cables, S-ATA power and S-ATA cables, along with the rare Southbridge heatsink to keep the southbridge cool.
