N00b - the hostel was about three quarters full, we were sharing dorms with strangers. Wasn't that bad though, they were all pretty friendly.

Yep it's the tourist dollar for me, every time.
Have you eaten at the Buchannan Arms Hotel in Drymen. I have stayed there a couple of times and the food is excellent.
