Ok, there's the 'problem'. Do you wish to be able to play the file on your DVD player, or do you merely wish to store it on CD for later use on a PC?
If you wish to play it on a DVD, you should convert it to VCD first (it's not a good idea to rely on NERO doing it for you). Take a look here for guides on avi -> vcd conversion.
If you wish just to store it to be played later on a PC, burn the CD as CD-ROM
