Dvd-rw Question

dvd-ram is not outdated its the new standard , and is above +-rw

you will find all dvd-ram drives also support dvd+-rw [/b][/quote]
i will slap u and slap whoever told u that.

DVD-Ram is one of the first standards, and is not compatible with many DVD players. it is ONLY used for backup purposes, and is designed to be used in a little cartridge. no one uses the cartridge anymore and thus it is totally useless as the cartridge enhanced its rewrite life. however, without the cartridge it is about as good as a +RW, but less widely acceped, and soon to be abandoned.


Some ppl even consider dvd-ram a total failure.

The prices are really dropping here in Canada ...... so think new technology is around the corner&#33; But I would look for the plus ? sign before buying also be asking a lot of questions :)

btw dual layered DVD-Rs will be out soon so i think u should wait for those too.

Sorry Atividia I can&#39;t type fast . In my post I linked to a artical about dual layer. It mentions the cost per disk as &#036; 5.00 to &#036; 6.oo I assume thats American funds Yikes hope they are rw &#39;s :lol:

Edit: Double the space at slower speed&#39;s Fuk you can&#39;t win .

rofl neither do i (im a pecker) but i still hit 70wpm

anyhoo yea dual layers are fairly new so ull need to wait a while for prices to come down. 5-6 USD makes sense for something new. and the technology will be implemented in the +Rs first :)

If we are lucky, some current Dvd +- rw drives will be able to be firmware upgradable.

I read an article over at cdfreaks.com and they said that nec&#39;s new duel layer dvd burner was an update of the old model.

We can only hope that they might release an offical firmware update patch&#33; :D

or that some1 rips the firmware and posts it on the net

i kinda understand, but then don&#39;t. i&#39;m sure once i get hands on i will be ok. and of course some trial and error. anyway, is that lite-on dvd-rw here a good one or no? i can&#39;t tell if that is a +/- or not. i see the symbol, is that what i should be looking for?

also, that new dvd writer coming out from sony sounds nice&#33; the one which can record 8.5gb. i&#39;m sure it can, but it WILL be able to record on the old (current) 4.5gb, or whatever, disks...right? if so, maybe i wait for that one, but on the other hand i will probably just get a current writer and play with it and get to know it then upgrade later.

is there something else i should know or look for in purchasing a dvd-rw that hasn&#39;t been asked or told? thanks for all u guys&#39; help&#33; much appreciated&#33;&#33;&#33; ;)

yep its a +/- alright, supports everything but dvd-ram, and if you dont need dvd-ram then no worries

you should get burning software with it aswell

yep its got all the currnt features , and at &#036;99 us ( i assume ) it a good price
