Turn off that useless system restore then try again.
just a thought but i believe that HP computers come with the operating system on a partition (my dads did)..Saves them from giving you the disc(sucks)..Goto the hp website and do a search...Be careful if his initial os was xp and he upgraded to xpsp1..You may need to download a patch from HP before you restore to the original os..hope this helps

pretty easy to spot...
just open up my computer and look at the installed drives
mine, for example, was D: PRESARIO_RP (RP stands for recovery partition) :P
but...
its shit if you dont want all the bundled shit that comes with an OEM pc
and it hogs up like 5 gigs of space
better to burn the recovery discs and delete the partition
(using the recovery discs works just the same as using the partition)
you just get around 5 gigs of extra storage to work with :D
only thing is it also restores all the bunlded crap :angry:
but that is a legit way of going about it, one way anyhow
